What are strawberry legs and how to get rid of them?

While strawberries look very beautiful, strawberry legs don't! For the ones who don’t know about this skin condition, the term comes from the dotted or pitted appearance that resembles the skin and seeds of a strawberry. They’re usually not accompanied by pain or itching and appear as bumps on the skin. It is also known as Keratosis Pilaris or KP for short.

what causes strawberry legs, keratosis pilaris

What leads to strawberry legs?

  1.     Shaving & Waxing - While shaving is quick and easy, rough shaving in the wrong direction or not using a good cream or lathering can lead to bumps and ingrown hair.

Incorrect waxing leads to strawberry skin, that is, pulling of the skin in the wrong direction or not moisturizing well after.

In turn, this can also lead to  Folliculitis - a common skin condition caused by an inflamed hair follicle. This condition can be the result of shaving, waxing, or other hair removal methods that leave the hair follicle open and at increased risk of exposure.

  1.     Overly Dry Skin - Not the main guy, but a partner in crime. Dry skin alone won’t lead to strawberry legs, although it makes your skin prone to them. Plus, it makes the dots more visible on your skin when it is dry.
  2.     Clogged pores - Pores are the tiny holes on your skin that make you hole-some. Sorry, had to. Clogged pores develop when dead skin cells, oil or dirt get trapped in your pores. So, these tiny pores produce oil and sweat and when one shaves, the pores are exposed to the air and the oil is exposed to air and turns black forming little dots all over your skin.

They are the problem, and what’s the solution?

To own it. Or, Tone it!

Willow extract: This natural BHA provides a gentle exfoliation to reveal more radiant, healthy-looking skin. It also helps with the redness due to its excellent anti-inflammatory properties. It refines bumpy texture, reduces oiliness and refines pores.

The tannins, an organic substance found in the bark, are highly astringent, which means they shrink or constrict body tissue, including the skin’s – which means, smaller pores and firmer skin & is a great treatment for strawberry legs!

Licorice: Known to have a soothing effect on skin that helps ease inflammation and redness. It naturally brightens the skin, helps fight pigmentation and lightens dark spots!
